When a candle is done burning, many people will just throw away their vessel because they don’t know what to do with it. We wanted to create a sustainable way to enjoy a candle and then recycle the vessel to have another purpose - be a beautiful planter to grow herbs!
How does this work? Each candle will come with paper mixed with parsley, chives, and basil seeds. Follow the steps below to transform your vessel into a planter:
Step 1: Prepare the vessel
- First soak your seeded paper in water overnight when the candle is ready to become a planter.
- Once the candle has burned down, you’ll be left with a container with a little bit of leftover wax at the bottom. Remove any remaining wax and the wick base. The wick base is connected with a sticker so should be easy to remove. To remove any remaining wax, you can gently scrape it out or add hot water to melt it and wipe it down. You can wash with soap and the vessel should be as good as new.
Step 2: Fill with soil
- Fill the vessel 3/4 with soil
- Put your seeded paper on top, and cover it 1/8 deep with soil
- Lightly pack the soil down to remove any air pockets and create a smooth, even surface for planting.
Step 3: Water & place in sunlight
- Water the herbs daily
- Place the container in a spot where it will receive adequate sunlight
Planting the seeds is an awesome way to extend the life of your candle and brings greenery into your home. This sustainable decor not only reduces waste but also allows you to enjoy the beauty of nature long after the candle has burned out. Enjoy your grounded candle!!
